Local Perot supporters to sponsor voting rally

Local supporters of independent presidential candidate Ross Perot are organizing a rally Sunday to encourage people to vote.

The “Getting Together” rally is being organized by the “United We Stand America” group, said Vickie Barbour, one of the rally’s organizers.

“The main purpose of this rally is just to get people out there and vote,” Barbour said. “It is a very unusual race this year; many people are still undecided.”

Mark Stegall, another Perot supporter, said, “historically, the independent candidate loses ground in the last few days before the election, and we want people to know we’re still strong.”

Perot has been losing some middle-of-the-road votes lately because the media has been hounding him so much, Stegall said.

Barbour said she hopes many undecided voters will attend the rally Sunday.

“We will have campaign literature, bumper stickers, and a copy of Perot’s book on hand for people to browse through,” she said.

Perot’s book, “United We Stand”, contains much evidence of his attitudes and beliefs, and Barbour urges anyone who does not know where he stands to read it.

“Many people say they’ve seen him on T.V. and stuff, but still don’t know what his policies are,” Barbour said.

Looking through his book is a great way to find out his stance on the issues, she said.

The rally is planned to begin at 3 p.m. Sunday in Fariview Park.
