Two South Campus resident assistants creatively presented alcohol facts to their floor residents in Atkin Hall Monday night.
Atkin 1 and 2 RA Christy Adamson and Atkin 10 RA Trish Haas administered a “Family Feud” style game to the residents featuring alcohol-related questions. “We decided to create the Family Feud game to make the program more creative and fun,” Adamson said. Each RA must administer two educational programs on their floor each semester, she explained. During the game, certain alcohol-related questions were asked to test the residents’ alcohol awareness. Some of the questions included: what are the negative effects alcohol has on life, warning signs of a drinking problem, and ways to drink responsibly at a college party. Fifteen Atkin residents from floors 1, 2, and 10 attended the presentation. Floors 1 and 2 won the competition, and prizes were awarded to them. Haas and Adamson thought the presentation was a success after it was over. “They seemed to know the effects of alcohol before the presentation,” Adamson said. “Alcohol Awareness Week was earlier this month, and this seemed to be a good follow-up to it,” Haas said. Some floor residents also expressed their satisfaction with the program. “I know the effects of alcohol when I go to a party, and I like to be aware of the dangers,” said resident Susie Salvatori. Resident Laura Spretnjak said “I look down on girls who get real drunk and hang on guys at a party.” Missy Garcia said “we learned to drink for the right reasons tonight.” |
