Board of Regents allocates departmental move funds

The Board of Regents has allocated over $500,000 to remodel spaces and change the locations of several ISU departments and facilities.
Rick Kentzler, director of Facilities Planning, said the opening of the Student Services building and Fell Hall have allowed for many departmental changes. The social work and psychology programs will move to the former Student Health Center in Fairchild Hall, while Media Services will occupy the former University Museum on Main Street, Kentzler said. Other remodeling projects include the relocation of the applied computer science program to the Educational Media Center, and the Student Accounts and Cashiers office to the former Placement Service building on Dry Grove Street, he said. Although the BOR approved the projects last week, there is not a firm schedule in place as to when the moves will occur, he said. Lawrence Eggan, chairman of the department of applied computer science, said “the plan calls for the move to be completed by the summer of 1994.” Eggan said it is unclear exactly how the moves will work, but Media Services must have their move out plans complete before his department can move in. Tentative plans for the ACS department include adding departmental offices in the building and creating a computer lab in the current micro resource center, Eggan said. The university architect is currently working on the move-out plans, he said. According to Georgia Bennett, secretary to the dean of the College of Fine Arts, the University Museum has been closed for over a year. The contents of the museum were stored, and the building was bid on for occupancy by another department, she said. |
